Recovery details for username accounts

The recovery contact and recovery phrase you save at sign-up are the only way back into a username account. Keep them safe.

  • Android app
  • Murudo Web

A username account has no email to send a reset code to. Instead, when you sign up you save a recovery contact and a recovery phrase and take a selfie. Together with your username, they are the only way back in if you forget your password.

What you save at sign-up

Straight after you create a username account, the Set up account recovery screen asks two things:

  • What phone number or contact should Support know is yours? Give a phone number, a WhatsApp number or another contact that belongs to you. This is your recovery contact.
  • What short recovery phrase do you want to use? Type at least 4 characters. This is your recovery phrase.

Then you tap Continue to selfie check and take a selfie. You cannot start using Murudo until all three are done.

Keep them safe

  • Write down your username, recovery contact and recovery phrase somewhere private. Murudo does not show any of them to you again after sign-up.
  • Choose a phrase you will remember and other people cannot guess. Do not reuse your password.
  • Never share your phrase. No one from Murudo will ask for it.

What Murudo can see

  • Your phrase is stored in a form nobody can read. Support can confirm that a phrase matches, but cannot see it or tell you what it is.
  • Our support team can see your recovery contact, so that they can recognise your account.
  • Murudo does not send codes or messages to the recovery contact. It is only compared with what you type during recovery.

Can I change them later?

No. There is no screen in the app or on Murudo Web for changing a recovery contact or phrase once they are saved. If your number has changed, you still type the contact you saved when you recover your account.

If you have an email address now, you can add it to your account. After that, a forgotten password is reset with a code sent to that email instead of with a selfie.

If you have forgotten them

Without the contact and the phrase, selfie recovery does not pass, and support cannot read the phrase or send you a recovery code. While you are still logged in, do one of these now:

  • Add an email address, so that a forgotten password can be reset by email.
  • Change your password to one you will remember. You need your current password to do this.

If you are already logged out and cannot remember your password, read Recover a username account with a selfie for what to try.
