Someone shared or threatened to share my private pictures
What to do if someone threatens to share intimate pictures of you, or already has. Do not pay, keep the evidence, report and block.
- Android app
- Murudo Web
Do not pay, and stop replying. Keep the evidence, report the person to Murudo and block them. Threatening someone this way is against Murudo's rules and, in many countries, against the law. It is not your fault, whoever took or sent the pictures.
What to do now
- Do not pay, and do not send more pictures. Paying rarely ends it. People who make these threats usually come back for more.
- Stop replying. Do not argue, plead or threaten back.
- Keep the evidence. Take screenshots of the threats, their profile, and any phone numbers, usernames or payment details they gave you. Do this before you block, because you cannot open the chat afterwards.
- Report them on Murudo. Open the chat, tap their name at the top, tap Report and choose Harassment or abuse. Under Add more details (optional), say that they are threatening to share private pictures. Tap Submit Report.
- Block them, on Murudo and on every other app they have used to reach you. Do not unmatch first: unmatching deletes the chat, while blocking keeps the messages for our team to review.
- Tell someone you trust. This is easier to face with support.
On Murudo Web the steps are the same: open the chat, tap their name, tap Report and choose Harassment, then tap Block.
If you can no longer open the chat, see Report someone after an unmatch or block.
If the pictures are already online
- Report them to the app or site where they appear. Most have a way to report intimate pictures shared without consent.
- StopNCII.org is an independent tool, not part of Murudo, that helps stop intimate images being shared online.
- Consider reporting to the police, and take your screenshots with you.
If the pictures are on Murudo
If someone has put a private picture of you on their profile, or sent one in a chat, report them and choose Inappropriate photos. Say that the picture is of you and was shared without your consent.
What Murudo can and cannot do
Our team reviews the report and can remove content or the account under the rules. Murudo cannot remove pictures from other apps or sites, or from someone's phone, which is why the steps above matter.
