What Sent, Delivered and Read mean in a chat

The small mark beside each message you send shows whether it is sending, sent, delivered, read or not sent. Read receipts cannot be switched off.

  • Android app
  • Murudo Web

Every message you send has a small mark beside its time. It shows how far the message has got: sending, sent, delivered, read or not sent. The app shows a symbol, not a word.

What each mark means

  • A clock: sending. The message has not reached Murudo yet. Offline, it waits and goes when you are back online.
  • One tick: sent. Murudo has your message. The other person did not have Murudo open at that moment, though they may still get a notification.
  • Two grey ticks: delivered. Murudo was open on the other person's phone or browser when the message arrived.
  • Two light purple ticks: read. The other person has opened the chat.
  • A red circle with an exclamation mark: not sent. Tap the mark to try again. See My messages are not sending.

Read receipts cannot be switched off

A message is marked as read when the person it was sent to opens the chat. This works both ways: when you open a chat, the sender sees that you have read their messages.

There is no setting to turn read receipts off, for free members or for Plus and Gold. If you are not ready to answer, you can read the start of a new message in your Matches list or in the notification without opening the chat.

Typing

While the other person is writing, you see their name followed by is typing... just above the message box. They see the same when you type. It only shows while you both have Murudo open, and it cannot be switched off.

What the marks do not tell you

  • Two purple ticks mean the chat was opened, not that a reply is coming now. People answer in their own time.
  • One tick for a long time usually means the person has not opened Murudo since you wrote.
  • The marks never show whether someone has unmatched or blocked you. If that happens, the chat leaves your list. See Why did my match or chat disappear?

On Murudo Web

The marks are the same: a clock, one tick, two grey ticks and two light purple ticks. A message that failed shows Not sent with a Retry button. Typing shows as typing... under the messages.
