Why can I not put my phone number on my profile?
Phone numbers are not allowed in your name, bio, prompts or other profile text. Share contact details in chat after you match.
- Android app
- Murudo Web
Phone numbers are not allowed in profile text, because your profile is shown to people you have not matched with yet. You can share your number in chat once you have matched with someone and feel ready.
What you see
If you type a phone number into your profile, Murudo will not save it and shows this message:
"Phone numbers aren't allowed on profiles. You can share contact details after matching in chat."
Remove the number and save again.
Where the rule applies
The rule covers every part of your profile that other members can read before a match:
- your first name
- your bio
- your prompt answers
- your school or institution
It applies when you first set up your profile and whenever you edit it, in the Android app and on Murudo Web. A number written out in words is treated the same as one written in digits.
If a number is found in profile text that was saved before this rule, other members see "[number removed]" in its place.
What is not affected
- Chat. The rule does not apply to messages. Once you have matched, you can share a phone number or other contact details there. Read When to share your number or move to another app first.
- The optional phone number on your account. If you gave a phone number when you signed up, it belongs to your account. It is not shown on your profile.
- Ordinary numbers. Your age, your height, a year or a date in your bio are fine.
Other contact details
The app only blocks phone numbers. Still, think before you put a social media name or any other way to reach you on a profile that strangers can read. Contact information in profile is one of the reasons members can choose when they report a profile.
Why Murudo does this
A number on your profile can be copied by anyone who is shown it, including people you would never match with and people running scams. Keeping contact details for after a match means you choose who gets them. See Spot a romance scam.
If your profile text is refused and has no number in it
Check for long strings of digits next to words like "call" or "WhatsApp", and rewrite that part. If it is still refused, contact support: open Profile, Inbox, Contact Murudo, and paste the text you are trying to save.
