Can someone screenshot my profile or chat?

Yes. Murudo cannot stop a screenshot and does not tell you when one is taken. How to share with that in mind and what to do if a screenshot is misused.

  • Android app
  • Murudo Web

Yes. Anyone who can see your profile or your chat can take a screenshot of it. Murudo does not block screenshots or screen recordings, and it does not tell you when someone takes one.

Why Murudo cannot prevent it

A screenshot is made by the phone, not by the app, and on Murudo Web it is made by the browser. Even if an app blocked it, a person could point a second phone at the screen. So the safe way to think about it is this: whatever another person can see, they can keep.

Share with that in mind

  • Profile. Only put on your profile what you are happy for strangers to see. Leave out your surname, your home address, your workplace and anything that shows where you live.
  • Photos. Choose profile photos you would not mind someone saving.
  • Chat. Do not send anything you would not want the other person to keep or show to someone else. That includes intimate pictures.
  • Contact details. Share your number only when you are ready. See When to share your number or move to another app.
  • Money and codes. Never send a password, a PIN or a verification code to anyone.

To see what others can see, read Who can see my profile?

Is it against the rules to take a screenshot?

Taking one is not against the rules by itself. People often screenshot a profile to ask a friend's opinion, or keep one as evidence for a report.

What is against the Community Guidelines is using it to hurt someone: sharing a person's private information without their consent, harassing or bullying them, or threatening or extorting them.

If a screenshot of you is being misused

  1. Do not pay and do not give in to threats.
  2. Keep evidence: take your own screenshots of the messages or the post.
  3. Report the person in Murudo. The steps are in Report someone. If you are still matched, report or block before you unmatch, because unmatching deletes the chat.
  4. If the picture was posted on another site or app, use that service's own report tools as well.

If someone has shared or is threatening to share private pictures of you, read Someone shared or threatened to share my private pictures.

If you are in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services.

Taking your own screenshots

You can screenshot Murudo too, for example to send to support or to keep as evidence. See Take a screenshot to send to support.
