# My location or city is wrong

Murudo sets your city from your phone's location. How to refresh it, why it can be wrong or missing, and how to hide it.

Murudo takes your city from your phone's location. You cannot type a city or pick one from a list, and there is no location row in Edit Profile. To fix a wrong city, let Murudo read your location again from where you are now.

## Refresh your city in the Android app

1. Turn on your phone's location. It is usually a **Location** button in the quick settings you pull down from the top of the screen.
2. Check that Murudo may use it. Open your phone's **Settings**, tap **Apps**, **Murudo**, **Permissions**, **Location**, and allow it while using the app.
3. Close Murudo fully and open it again.
4. Open the **Profile** tab. Murudo reads your location when it opens and when you open your Profile, and the city under your name updates.

If nothing changes, wait a minute and try again near a window or outside.

## If Murudo asks about location

- **Update your location** or **Enable location**: tap **Allow location**, then allow it when Android asks. If the button reads **Open settings**, Android has stopped asking. Tap it and turn location on for Murudo.
- **Turn on location services**: your phone's location is switched off. Tap **Open settings** and switch it on.
- **Share location for better matches** on For You: tap **Allow location**. It does the same thing.
- **Improve your location**: the area on your account was chosen by hand, not read from your phone. Allow location so it stays up to date when you move.

## Why your city is wrong or missing

- You tapped **Skip for now** when setting up, or refused the permission. Your profile has no city until you allow location. On your own Profile tab it reads **Location not shared**.
- You moved or are travelling and have not opened Murudo with location on since.
- Your phone's position is rough. Indoors it can place you in a neighbouring town.

## Hide your city instead

To keep your city off your profile, open **Profile**, **Settings**, **Privacy and security** and switch off **Show my location**. See [Hide your last active time or location](https://help.murudo.co/privacy/hide-last-active-and-location/).

## On Murudo Web

Murudo Web asks your browser for your location. On **Discover** you may see **Keep your matches nearby** with **Allow location**: tap it and allow it when the browser asks. If the button reads **How to enable**, location is blocked for murudo.co. Allow it in your browser's site settings, then reload. If you see **Location unavailable here**, that browser cannot share a location.

Murudo Web keeps the area it read for a week, so it does not ask again each time you open it. If you tap **Not now**, it also waits a week before asking again.

## Still wrong

If the people you are shown are too far away, that is the distance setting, not your city. See [Set your distance, age range and who you want to date](https://help.murudo.co/finding-people/match-preferences/).

If your city itself is still wrong, tell support the city Murudo shows and the city you are in. See [Contact Murudo support](https://help.murudo.co/settings/contact-support/).
