# Let Murudo use your camera, photos, location and notifications

What Murudo uses your camera, photos, location and notifications for, and how to allow or stop each one on Android and on Murudo Web.

Murudo uses four things on your phone: the camera, your photos, your location and notifications. It asks before it uses the camera, your location or notifications, and you can change your answer at any time in your phone's settings. Murudo does not ask for your microphone or your contacts.

## What each one is for

- **Camera.** Only for selfie checks: for the **Verified** badge, when you sign up with a username, and to recover a username account. Without it you cannot take a selfie check. Everything else still works.
- **Photos.** For choosing profile pictures, pictures for a chat and screenshots for support. Your phone's own photo picker opens, and Murudo gets only the pictures you choose. Normally there is nothing to allow first.
- **Location.** For setting your city and working out who is near you. Murudo reads it only while you are using the app. If you never allow it, your profile has no city, and members who set a maximum distance do not see you in For You. See [How your location and city work](https://help.murudo.co/profile/how-location-works/).
- **Notifications.** For new messages, matches, likes and replies from Murudo. Without them you only see these when you open Murudo. See [Turn Murudo notifications on or off](https://help.murudo.co/settings/notifications/).

The [app lock](https://help.murudo.co/settings/app-lock/) uses your phone's own fingerprint, face or screen lock and needs no permission from you.

> [!NOTE]
> A username account needs the camera once at sign-up, because its selfie check cannot be skipped.

## Change a permission on Android

1. Open your phone's **Settings** app.
2. Tap **Apps**, then **Murudo**.
3. Tap **Permissions**, then **Camera** or **Location**, and allow it or turn it off.
4. For notifications, go back one step and tap **Notifications**.

On most phones there is a shorter way: press and hold the Murudo icon and tap **App info**. The names of these menus differ a little from phone to phone.

After you refuse a permission, Android may stop asking. Murudo then shows a button such as **Open settings**, which takes you to the same place. For location, your phone's own **Location** switch must be on as well.

You may also see **Photos and videos** in the list. Choosing pictures normally works without it. If you see **Couldn't open photo library**, tap **Open Settings** and allow it.

## On Murudo Web

Your browser asks, not Android, the first time each one is needed:

- **Camera**: when you tap **Take Selfie** for a selfie check.
- **Location**: when you tap **Allow location** on **Discover**.
- **Notifications**: when you tap **Enable** at **Browser notifications**, in **Settings** under **Account**. On an iPhone this only works after you add Murudo to your Home Screen.
- **Photos**: no permission is needed. You choose the files yourself.

If you blocked one, the browser does not ask again. Open your browser's site settings for murudo.co, allow it there, then reload the page.
