# Someone asked me for money

What to do when a match asks for money, airtime, data or a loan, and what to do if you have already sent it.

Do not send it. However real the reason sounds, a request for money, airtime, data or "transport" from someone you have not met is the clearest warning sign of a scam. Scams and financial manipulation are against Murudo's rules, so report the person and then block them.

## What to do now

1. Do not send anything, and do not explain or argue. You can simply stop replying.
2. Take screenshots of the request and of their profile.
3. Open your chat with them and tap their name at the top.
4. Tap **Report**, choose **Spam or scam**, and write what they asked for under **Add more details (optional)**. Tap **Submit Report**.

5. Back on their profile, tap **Block**, then **Block** again to confirm.

Do not unmatch them first. Unmatching deletes the chat for both of you. Blocking ends the match but keeps the messages for our team to review.

### On Murudo Web

Open the chat and tap their name at the top. Tap **Report**, choose **Spam** as the **Reason**, write what they asked for under **Details (optional)** and tap **Submit Report**. Then tap **Block** and **Confirm**.

## How the request usually comes

- "Send transport money so I can come and see you."
- "My data is finished. Send airtime so we can keep talking."
- An emergency: a hospital bill, a funeral, an arrest, being stranded somewhere.
- "I am abroad and need help with fees. I will pay you back when I land."
- "Invest with me": forex, crypto or a business that cannot lose.
- A request to receive money for them and pass it on. Do not agree to that either.

Someone who is serious about you will not ask for money before you have met, and will not be angry when you say no.

## If you have already sent money

- Contact your mobile money provider or your bank straight away. Tell them it was fraud and ask whether the payment can be stopped. The sooner you do this, the better.
- Keep the proof: the transaction message or reference, the number or account you paid, and your screenshots of the chat.
- Consider reporting it to the police.
- Report the person on Murudo as above, and include the number or account you paid.
- Do not send more to "release" or recover the first payment. Someone who offers to get your money back for a fee is very likely running a second scam.

> [!WARNING]
> Murudo cannot return money that you sent to another person. That payment was made outside Murudo.

These people are practised at what they do. Being caught out is nothing to be ashamed of, and reporting it helps protect the next person.
