# Staying safe when you date

The habits that keep you safe on Murudo, from the first message to the first meeting, and what to do if something feels wrong.

Most people on Murudo are here for the same reason you are. A few are not, so keep four habits: get to know someone inside Murudo first, never send money, meet in a public place, and tell someone you trust where you are going. If anything feels wrong you can stop replying, block and report at any time, without giving a reason.

## While you are chatting

- **Keep the first conversations in Murudo.** Here you can block or report someone in a few taps, and our team can act on their account. Before you swap numbers, read [When to share your number or move to another app](https://help.murudo.co/matches-and-chat/sharing-your-number/).
- **Look for the Verified badge.** A verified member took a selfie that was checked against their profile photos, which is a good sign that the photos are really theirs. The badge says nothing about their intentions, so the other habits still apply. You can [get the verified badge](https://help.murudo.co/profile/get-verified/) too.
- **Keep private details private.** Do not share your home address, workplace, ID number, bank details or passwords with someone you have not met.
- **Never send money.** That includes airtime, data and gifts, whatever the reason. Read [Spot a romance scam](https://help.murudo.co/safety/spot-a-scam/).
- **Go at your own pace.** Someone worth meeting will not rush you, pressure you or get angry when you say no. See [Consent and respect](https://help.murudo.co/safety/consent-and-respect/).

## Before you meet

- Meet in a public place, and in the daytime for the first few dates.
- Tell a friend or family member who you are meeting, where and when.
- Share your live location with that person from Google Maps.
- Arrange your own transport there and back.

The full list is in the [First date checklist](https://help.murudo.co/safety/first-date-checklist/).

## If something feels wrong

Trust the feeling. You do not owe anyone a reply, a meeting or an explanation.

- To stop someone contacting you, [block them](https://help.murudo.co/safety/block-someone/).
- If they broke the rules or frightened you, [report them](https://help.murudo.co/safety/report-someone/) first, then block. Reports are confidential.
- If someone asks you for money, read [Someone asked me for money](https://help.murudo.co/safety/someone-asked-me-for-money/).

> [!IMPORTANT]
> If you are in danger, contact your local emergency services straight away. Murudo is not an emergency service.

## Find this in the app

Open the **Profile** tab and tap **Safety** to see the Safety Center, with date safety tips and a way to report a concern. On Murudo Web, open **Profile** and tap **Safety**. Read [What is in the Safety Center](https://help.murudo.co/safety/safety-center/).
