# Reporting someone unfairly

Reports are for real problems. How reports are checked, why one report alone does not remove anyone, and what to do if you were reported unfairly.

Report someone when you honestly believe they broke the [rules](https://help.murudo.co/rules/community-guidelines/) or made you unsafe. Do not report a person to punish them for not replying, for unmatching you, or because of a disagreement. For those, unmatch or block instead.

## How reports are checked

- A person reads every report.
- Our team acts on evidence and on the rules, not on the number of reports. A report on its own does not suspend or remove anyone.
- The person you report is not shown what you wrote.

So a false report does not get someone removed. It only takes time away from reports about real harm.

## When to report, and when not to

Report:

- harassment, threats or abuse
- a fake profile, or someone using another person's photos
- scams and requests for money
- someone who may be under 18
- anything that made you feel unsafe

Do not report someone only because:

- they did not reply or stopped replying
- they unmatched you or were not interested
- you disagree with their views or their choices

If you are not sure whether something breaks the rules, it is fine to report it and describe what happened. Our team decides. What is not fine is reporting something you know is untrue.

## Using reports to target someone

Sending reports you know are false, or getting other people to report someone, is a way of harassing them. Harassment and bullying are against the [Community Guidelines](https://murudo.co/guidelines/), and breaking them can lead to a warning, a suspension or a ban.

## If you think you were reported unfairly

You are not told when someone reports you, and you are not told who did. If our team looks at a report and finds that no rule was broken, no action is taken against your account.

If your account is suspended or banned and you believe the decision was a mistake, [send an appeal](https://help.murudo.co/rules/appeal-a-suspension-or-ban/) from the locked screen and explain what happened.

## If someone is bothering you

You do not need to report a person to stop hearing from them. [Unmatch](https://help.murudo.co/matches-and-chat/unmatch-someone/) or [block](https://help.murudo.co/safety/block-someone/) them. If they are harassing you, do report it: read [Harassment and unwanted messages](https://help.murudo.co/safety/harassment-and-unwanted-messages/).
