# Add a song to your profile

Choose a song file from your phone, pick the minute you like and save it. Once our team has listened, people can play it from your profile.

You can add one song to your profile. Choose a song file from your phone, pick the minute you want people to hear and tap **Use this minute**. Once our team has listened to it, that minute plays by itself when someone opens your profile. A song is free and optional.

## Add your song

1. Open **Profile**, tap **Edit Profile**, then tap **Song**.
2. Tap **Add a song** and choose a song file from your phone.
3. Murudo reads the song and starts you on its strongest minute. Drag the window along the song to choose another minute. Tap **Play this minute** to hear it.
4. Tap **Use this minute**.

You can also add a song while you set up your profile. The step **Add a song to your profile** comes just before the last one. Tap **Maybe later** to skip it.

If you have no song yet, the app may ask you once with **Add a song to your profile**. Tap **Add a song** to go straight to **Song** in Edit Profile, or **Not now**.

### Which files work

- MP3, M4A, WAV or OGG files of up to 20 MB.
- The song must be at least 30 seconds long. If it is under a minute, all of it plays.
- Files longer than 15 minutes are refused, so choose a single song, not a mix.

## While our team listens

In **Edit Profile**, the **Song** row shows **Being checked** until our team has listened to your song, then **Live**. Inside, a live song is marked **Plays on your profile**.

If the song is **Not approved**, the reason is shown under it, and a message in your **Inbox** tells you why, with an **Add a new song** button that opens **Song**. Choose another song. If you are changing your song, the old one keeps playing until the new one is approved.

## What other people see and hear

- A play button at the top of your profile. They tap it to hear the minute, and can pause it. If they turned on **Play profile songs**, it starts by itself a moment after they open your profile.
- Only you see the song's name. Other people only hear the minute.

To hear your own song as others will, see [Preview your profile](https://help.murudo.co/profile/preview-your-profile/).

## Change or remove your song

Open **Edit Profile**, tap **Song**, then:

- **Change the minute** to play a different part of the same song.
- **Choose a different song** to replace it.
- **Remove song**, then **Remove**. It stops playing on your profile straight away.

## Let songs play by themselves

Songs only play when you tap their play button. To have a profile's song start by itself when you open it:

- **Android app:** open **Profile**, tap **Settings** and, under **Sound**, turn on **Play profile songs**.
- **Murudo Web:** open **Settings** and, under **Appearance**, turn on **Play profile songs**.

Turn it off the same way. Playing or pausing a song does not change this setting.

## Song rules

Add only music you have the right to share. A song must be music, with no contact details or adverts, nothing sexual and nothing hateful or violent. A song can be taken down after a copyright complaint. After three songs are taken down this way, you cannot add songs any more. When we take a song down, a message in your **Inbox** says why.

If a profile's song breaks these rules, report the person and choose **Their song**. See [Report someone](https://help.murudo.co/safety/report-someone/).

## If you do not see Song in Edit Profile

Songs need the newest version of the app. Update Murudo from Google Play, or download the newest app from murudo.co; see [Update Murudo to the latest version](https://help.murudo.co/troubleshooting/update-murudo/). Songs also work on Murudo Web at murudo.co/app.
