# What happens to my verification selfie

What Murudo does with the selfie you take for Face Verification or the sign-up Selfie Check. Who sees it, how it is stored, when it is deleted and what is kept.

Your verification selfie is used to check that you are the person in your profile photos. It is never added to your profile and other members never see it. It is deleted when your check is decided, and after 30 days at the latest.

## What the app tells you before you take it

In the Android app, the **Face Verification** screen has a card called **Your privacy**. It says:

- "Other members never see your selfie"
- "Kept in private, encrypted storage"
- "Deleted when your check is decided, and after 30 days at the latest"
- "We keep a face match record, not the photo, to check photos you add later"
- "A person on our team reviews it when the automatic check is not sure"

You agree to this when you tap **I agree to face verification**. Murudo Web uses the same check and the same rules, although its **Get Verified** screen does not show the card.

## When the selfie is deleted

- The automatic check approves you: the selfie is deleted as soon as the check finishes.
- The check asks you to retake the selfie: the one that did not work is deleted.
- The check is not sure: the selfie waits for a person on our team, and is deleted when they decide. See [My verification is pending or did not work](https://help.murudo.co/profile/verification-pending-or-failed/).
- No selfie is kept longer than 30 days. If one reaches that limit before it has been reviewed, it is deleted and the check is closed. Take a new selfie to try again.

[Deleting your account](https://help.murudo.co/account-and-login/delete-your-account/) also deletes any selfie still held.

## Who can see it

- Other members: never.
- Our team: only when the selfie needs a manual review.

## What is kept after the selfie is deleted

Murudo keeps a face match record made from your selfie. It is a set of numbers that describes a face, not a photo. It is used to check that photos you add later still show you. See "Keeping the badge" in [Get the verified badge](https://help.murudo.co/profile/get-verified/).

The record is deleted with your account.

## The Selfie Check when you sign up

If you signed up with a username, or used a selfie instead of an email code, you took a **Selfie Check** first. That selfie follows the same rules: private storage, never shown to members, and deleted after 30 days at the latest.

For a username account, the same selfie is compared with your profile photos once your profile is finished. The face match record from it is also what lets you get back into the account later with a fresh selfie. See [Recover a username account with a selfie](https://help.murudo.co/account-and-login/recover-a-username-account/).

## Verifying again

You only need to verify again if your profile photos change. Each new selfie is handled in the same way.
