# Does Murudo read my messages?

Your chats are between you and your match. When our team can review a conversation, what research does with messages, and what happens to a chat when it ends.

Your chats are between you and the person you matched with. No other member can see them. Our team can review a conversation when it is reported or as part of a safety investigation, and Murudo's research counts messages but never reads them.

## Who can see a chat

- **You and your match.** Nobody else on Murudo can open your conversation.
- **Our team, for safety.** The [Terms of Service](https://murudo.co/terms/) say Murudo may review content and investigate reports, and the [Privacy Policy](https://murudo.co/privacy/) says we use information, including messages, to investigate abuse, fraud, scams and safety incidents. So if you or your match reports the conversation, or a safety investigation involves it, a person on our team can read it.

## Research never reads messages

Murudo Labs studies how people look for a partner using anonymous totals, such as how many likes or messages were sent. Messages are counted, never read. More in [How Murudo uses anonymous totals for research](https://help.murudo.co/privacy/murudo-research/).

## Where messages are kept

Messages and photos you send are stored on Murudo's servers. That is how they reach your match and how you see the same chat in the Android app and on Murudo Web. The Privacy Policy lists messages among the information Murudo collects.

We do not sell your personal data.

## What happens to a chat when it ends

- **You delete a message.** It is hidden for you only. Your match still has it.
- **Either of you unmatches.** The whole chat is deleted for both of you. See [Unmatch someone](https://help.murudo.co/matches-and-chat/unmatch-someone/).
- **Either of you blocks the other.** The chat closes for both of you, but it is kept so that our team can review it if there is a report.
- **You delete your account.** Your chats are removed for you and for your matches. See [What happens to my data when I delete my account](https://help.murudo.co/privacy/what-happens-to-my-data-when-i-delete/).

If you plan to report someone, report or block them before you unmatch, so the conversation is still there for our team to see.

## Other ways a message can be seen

- **Notifications.** A new message can show its first words in a notification on your match's lock screen. You can change that for your own phone in [Turn Murudo notifications on or off](https://help.murudo.co/settings/notifications/).
- **Screenshots.** Your match can take a screenshot of the chat. See [Can someone screenshot my profile or chat?](https://help.murudo.co/privacy/screenshots-of-my-profile/)

> [!TIP]
> Write nothing in a chat that you would not want the other person to keep. Never send a password, a PIN or a verification code to anyone.
